Prison
Ministry
Free on the inside
The
Prison Ministry reaches inmates in the county jails through visits,
chapel services and counseling. Our
chaplains continue to minister to interested individuals in the
prison system by means of a monthly newsletter, personal follow-up
and Bible correspondence courses. Upon release, men can enter
the Crossroads program, which is
certified as a pre-release center. When they are incarcerated,
men and women often come to the end of themselves, find true freedom
in a relationship with Christ, and make decisions to change their
lives.
Each
week Staff Chaplains and volunteers from The City Mission visit
men and women in the Cuyahoga County Justice Center and other
local jails to share the good news of Christ with them. Inmates
pray with the Chaplains, receive individual counseling, and are
guided in decisions of faith.
Follow-up
care is provided in the form of group Bible studies and correspondence
materials. The City Mission is approved by the State of Ohio as
a prison release facility and receives men into the Crossroads
resident program to ease the transition back to the outside world.
There
is a growing need in the Cleveland area for ministry to women
who are released from the Ohio prison system and have children
to care for, as well as many other problems to overcome. As the
Angeline Christian Home for
women seeks to expand its outreach, and as planning continues
on Laura's Home, this need will
receive continued attention.
