stand firm.
Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. "

Reflections On God's Faithfulness

Tim Campbell
Executive Director

Traditions play an important role in our lives. They give us a sense of stability, remind us of our heritage and provide some fixed points of reference in the midst of an ever-changing world. One of the traditions we've established here at The City Mission is to take time each October to look back at our history. We want to be reminded of God's faithfulness in the past, see if we're remaining true to our Christian heritage and ask God to lead us into the future.

This year marks another major milestone in the life of The City Mission as this month the Mission turns 90. A few days from now, 700 of you will gather at Parkside Church to attend our 90th Anniversary Banquet. Over the years God has added to our staff, expanded our base of volunteers and contributors and allowed us to impact the lives of more people than ever before in our history. We are excited about what lies ahead as we prepare to open Laura's Home for women and children in just a little over a year from now. The world has changed greatly in these last 90 years, but looking back over the decades it is apparent that some things haven't changed. God said "the poor will always be with you." Broken lives, shattered dreams, homeless and needy men, women and children surround us today, just as in the past. Throughout history their basic needs have been the same: food, shelter, clothing, love and acceptance. Yet as a Rescue Mission we know that each one has deeper needs that only God can meet. The strength, healing, meaning and purpose that they seek is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Today, as always, we are committed to that purpose.

As we enter a new decade of service it's good to reflect that some things never change. While there will always be people in need, God remains faithful to supply the resources to meet that need through you, His people. Thank you for your faithful partnership in this ministry. Whether you are a new friend or a long-time partner with us I hope this newsletter will enlighten and encourage you and inspire us together to press on in His service.
