Pathways
Youth Ministry
An ounce of prevention
To
prevent the factors that cause homelessness, children need to
learn early in life how to make good decisions. Our Pathways youth
program reaches out to kids from low-income, at-risk urban neighborhoods
on Cleveland's East side. These biweekly Bible clubs combine lessons
about Jesus with arts and crafts, games, sports activities and
visiting entertainment such as puppet shows and musical groups.
Pathways
currently has an enrollment of over 1,200 children and teenagers,
with an average attendance of approximately 800 youth at regular
activities. Bible lessons and Christian values are taught and
modeled by faithful volunteers who come each to session ready
to build relationships and help guide the young people to successful
futures. Individual tutoring is also available for children who
need help in school.
Trips
to our camp, Grand Valley Christian Center,
as well as pro sports events, amusement parks, skating rinks and
other fun destinations serve as rewards for faithful, cooperative
attendance. One measure of the success of these programs is that
through the years, very few of the youth have later come to our
shelters needing help in their adult lives.
Many
Pathways kids have gone on to college and/or successful careers
and they regard the time spent at Bible club as one of the most
important influences in their development.
